Tiger Woods on 60 minutes

I forgot where i picked up the link, but nonetheless: check out http://news.yahoo.com/60minutes for all the interviews and videos of Tiger Woods portrait on CBS “60 minutes”. Great stuff!

Open de France

On the European Tour, the French Open just got underway at Le Golf National near Paris (satellite view). Monty has withdrawn from the tournament after playing seven tournaments in a row, citing exhaustion. Still should be an interesting tournament if you look at the entry list, check out the live leaderboard here.

Jenna Jameson Putter

Now this is what I’d define as golf porn (please excuse me, Golfpunkmag):

You probably know these pens or lighters that reveal some naked pin up girl when you turn them uside down. Well, you can have the same with your putter now thanks to Blueball Sports Jenna Jameson Putt-her (that’s what they actually call it). As if female escort service on the course wasn’t enough.

Get f***ing real: who buys crap like that? Most ridiculous golf item ever!

Strike’n'Swipe

Impact labels for golf club isn’t a new thing in golf, be it leather patches or other stickers, we’ve seen them already. Now, Strike’n'Swipe comes along with “the world’s first reusable impact labels”. They are available in different shapes to be used on putters, woods and irons:

After you make your hit, the mark will show on the label. To erase the mark, you just swipe across it and make your next hit. The labels are reusable up to 50 times, good enough for your training session. Retailers for Europe are not shown on their website, so anybody up for a trip to New Zealand? Can you bring me a pack for testing?

An interview with Geoff Ogilvy

Ok, ok, it’s been a couple of days since the end of the US Open, but I still wanted to share the interview with winner Geoff Ogilvy:

RAND JERRIS: It’s a pleasure to welcome to the interview room the 106th United States Open champion Geoff Ogilvy with a round of 72 this afternoon, 285 for the championship. There’s a trophy sitting here between us with some pretty special names, Bob Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer. Share with me what it feels like to know your name is going to be the next one on the trophy forever.

GEOFF OGILVY: It’s pretty hard to believe. Obviously you dream about winning major championships, and to actually have it happen…

Once it sinks in, it’s pretty special. It’s starting to sink in. It’s a pretty nice feeling.

Erkenntnis des Tages

Training im Sandbunker bei Gegenwind ist scheisse!

Segway GT

Don’t get me wrong, normally I am an carrybag-golf-person. Only on tournaments I use my trolley. But the Segway Golf Transporter looks like something fun to ride around the golf course:

The Segway® Golf Transporter (GT) is our personal transporter configured to give golf enthusiasts a new way to cruise the course. With extended-range batteries, a golf bag carrier rack, and enhanced traction tires, the Segway GT provides the golfer all the tools needed to experience the game in a fun, unique way.

It seems that this thing is mainly intended for older golfers that do not want to sit in one of these ridiculous one-seater golf carts. Still, I’d love to test ride this Segway on a quick 18 holes on an empty course and maybe beat my personal 18 holes record time of 2:45 (on foot).

Hamburg spielt Golf

Soccer – Golf – Soccer

Between Germany – Ecuador and England – Sweden there was enough time for some nine holes in Kallin. We just arrived there after a rainshower, but the sun came out again when we teed off at 7 pm. It was pretty damp and as the sun set, there was a sudden development of ground fog. My cameraphone didn’t quite capture it so good, but it was a very interesting sight:

You could follow your fairway shots just as long as they fell into the fog, didn’t male it easier to find them again! As quick as it came it disappeared, we had all hit our tee shots on the ninth and went on to make our second shots, turned around and the fog was gone. Strange.

But we were back in time at the clubhouse for the England game. Call that a triathlon.
