K-Club to ban cameras
Fans attending the 36th Ryder Cup at the K Club in Ireland next month will have to take a sketchbook with them if they want to grab some memories of the scenes taking place there.
It was announced today that all cameras and cameraphones will be banned from the premises “to ensure that the matches take place without the risk of disturbance to the players”. What a dumb idea!
To ensure that they should also ban people from sneezing, farting, burping and whack the obnoxious “get in the hole”-shouter with a 5 iron. I admit camera-clicking can be annoying but so can be walking around in the back of the galleries when a player is making his tee shot or. But it won’t stop people from bringing their cameras to the tournament.
Same thing at the Deutsche Bank Players Championship several weeks ago. Cameras were not allowed on the premises, but with no one controlling the people at the entrance, there were cameras all over the place. I took pictures myself, but always watched out not to disturb a players swing or swing preparation. The show is for the spectators after all.
