G&CC Fleesensee: Tchibo Course

After Christmas we drove up to spent some days off at Fleesensee together with some friends. We had rented ourselves a little cottage to celebrate New Years Eve there. Unsettled weather didn’t keep us from sneaking in the last round of golf in 2006 which we played on December 30th on Fleesensees Tchibo Course.

Out of Fleesensees 18 hole courses, the Tchibo Course is the easiest and shortest. With a length of 4,750 meters and par 67, it is primarily aimed at beginners. I still remember the first round we played there one day after we got our golf green card. It felt rather big back then, it had plenty of water hazards that scared us a little bit as unexperienced golfers.

A couple of years later and somewhat matured as a golfer, the course is still fun to play. What counts is not the length of a shot but tactical play and precision. And that’s what I set out as a goal for my round.

The first nine holes are the more hilly ones, only holes 1, 5 and 6 go flat out, on the others you play either up- or downhill. On the ninth you play downhill towards the clubhouse, but you play a blind shot from the back pins as a large fairway bunker hides the green (webcam view of clubhouse terrace and holes nine and ten of the Tchibo course).

Rather unusual is the layout in the back nine, as you play consecutive par 3′s on 11 & 12 and on 14 & 15. And what can you say, my wife birdies two of them. Congratulations, honey!
My play was rather mediocre. I had borrowed a Callaway Big Bertha II Driver from a friend that I wanted to try out on the round. It took me a little getting used to and the gusty winds didn’t help a lot. As the course has only one par 5 and the 13th is the only par 3 over 300 meters, I was able to shoot Driver and PW or SW on most holes, certainly a rather new experience for me. But one that I liked a lot.

Greenfees are € 40,00 for your 18 hole round (€ 35,00 in winter) and as on all other courses of the club, there are no winter greens. And even at the end of december, numerous people were on the course, accounting for its popularity.
