Driver Sound Design

Nike Sumo II and Callaway FTi driver

Nowadays, almost every product comes with its own sound design, the sound of a shutting car door should imply about the quality of the car. I am not quite sure if Nike considered this whilst desiging the Nike Sumo II. Last night I had a chance to try both the Nike Sumo II and the Callaway FTi. The sound of the Nike is that of a tin box strapped to a piece of lumber, it almost sounds as if the driver is broken. The Callaway is simply loud. As we played indoor, the sound is surely more intense in the boxes we play than in open air. But still, a classic, solid “PINNNGGG” gives me more joy than a loud “THWACK”. At least we have a new game to play in the upcoming season: guess the brand of the driver the player on the adjacent hole just played by just hearing the sound.

    Diese neuen Driver (auch schon der Ignite) hören sich für mich auch so an, als ob am Schaft eine Getränkedose montiert ist, die beim Schlag zerbeult wird. Schrecklich! Da schaut man doch immer unbewusst, ob der Schläger noch heil ist. Auch die Form der Schlägerköpfe finde ich gewöhnungsbedürftig.
    Aber wenn es hilft. Schließlich zählt ja nur die Weite. Leider muss man auch diese Wunderwaffen treffen, sonst fliegt der Ball auch nicht weiter. ;-(

    Optisch sind die beiden grenzwertig, absolut. Von den Längen kann ich jetzt nur die Werte wiedergeben, die mir der Simulator ausgespuckt hatte. Und die waren seeehr ordentlich. Frage ist nur, ob die sich in der freien Natur reproduzieren lassen.

    Bzgl. Länge im Simulator und draussen: Ich hatte bis jetzt den Eindruck, dass es im Simulator eher kürzer angezeigt wird. Aber ich brauch keinen neuen Driver, meiner sollte noch ne Weile reichen.

    Ich hatte mal nen Driver mit 9° Loft. Der ging garnicht und musste zu eBay. Aber Bock hätte ich schon auf einen neuen, ne Callaway Big Bertha II sollte es für meine Verhältnisse tun. Und ist deutlich billiger als der FTi.

    So schmerzhaft das finanziell wird, aber meinen nächsten Driver werde ich fitten lassen. Schaft und Loft sollten hier (bei den Eisen auch) zur Schwunggeschwindigkeit passen. Hoffentlich läßt sich dadurch bei mir noch etwas Potenzial finden. ;-(
