Sports on Google Earth

10. First let’s look at the 2nd of the 18-hole Las Vegas Country Club Golf Course, where we see the pin lying on the grass and the person closest playing their putt. Everyone else is standing around, probably telling him to hurry up.

Driver Sound Design

Nike Sumo II and Callaway FTi driver

Nowadays, almost every product comes with its own sound design, the sound of a shutting car door should imply about the quality of the car. I am not quite sure if Nike considered this whilst desiging the Nike Sumo II. Last night I had a chance to try both the Nike Sumo II and the Callaway FTi. The sound of the Nike is that of a tin box strapped to a piece of lumber, it almost sounds as if the driver is broken. The Callaway is simply loud. As we played indoor, the sound is surely more intense in the boxes we play than in open air. But still, a classic, solid “PINNNGGG” gives me more joy than a loud “THWACK”. At least we have a new game to play in the upcoming season: guess the brand of the driver the player on the adjacent hole just played by just hearing the sound.

Golf Apparel Update

New season, new stuff to buy for the fashion-conscious golfer:

Birdie Girl Golf is more for the Paula Creamer in you, pink is very dominant in their bag and accessories collection. For the more rugged golfer, Tattoogolf offers you more muted colors and tattoostyle logos and skulls – of course.

Personally, I’d prefer the new Natural Born Golfers collection and the GC St. Pauli will present its collection this weekend at Hanse Golf, a webshop will soon also be available.

Live @ AT&T National Pro-Am

The AT&T National Pro-Am is coming up this week in beautiful Pebble Beach. Multi platinum singer Justin Timberlake and Academy Award nominee Don Cheadle will lead the celebrity field at the 2006 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Ray Romano, Michael Bolton, Chris O’Donnell, Glenn Frey and Huey Lewis will also compete on Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills.

On the PGA tour website, you will be able to follow the tournament via livestream. Well, not exactly the whole tournament but all the action from Pebble Beach’s signature hole number 7. The shortest hole in major championship golf is all about the wind. When the wind is blowing you’ll see players switching from club to club before playing. Check for broadcast times over at the PGA tour website.

Summer in the city

Just bumped into this video of the Shoreditch Urban Open Golf Tournaments. Don’t worry, they don’t play regular golf balls there!

Snow Golf World Cup 2007

With this years mild winter, the conditions for the Snow Golf World Cup 2007 in Abtenau/Austria weren’t nearly as good as last year. It became a very funny weekend after all.

Arriving Friday afternoon I had a quick chance to have a look at the course and the conditions before hitting the players night. The course was situated around the ski lift, partly on ski slopes and partly on cow meadows, a par 36 nine hole course consisting of eight par 4′s and one par 3. With just a little snow left, it should be partly snow- and crossgolf for saturday.

The players night was good fun, I didn’t know anybody at first, but made the acquaintance of Hans, an editor for ‘De Telegraaf‘ and later on, Joost und Gina Hage. Joost is a PGA Professional and was giving trick golf shows on the weekend.

I was on the second flight at 9:10 for the morning, but due to the nasty weather – we had a mixture of rain and snow with heavy winds – many of the participants didn’t show up. The first flight was missing two, my flight was missing three, so instead of playing alone, I joined the first flight of Gernot and John:

Snow or no snow?

Well, it doesn’t look like there is any snow in Abtenau, but anyway, I’m off to the Snowgolf World Championships. Let’s see if I can win anything!
