Estoril Open

By looking at the current leaderboard of the Estoril Open de Portugal at Quinta da Marinha, I see some fine weekend prospects for our german plazers Martin Kaymer and Sven Strüver:

Not all top players have finished their round yet, but with a projected cut around +3 / +4 Martin should be safe and sound for the weekend. Sven is three holes into his second round and is level par for the round and one under for the tournament. A solid performance should earn him two more tournament days as well.

Kariem Baraka though has had a rough tournament, after +12 in his first round he added +6 to his scorecard today and is T153. Better luck next time, buddy!

Womens Golf Calendar

Dropping everything for a good cause seems to get its tradition not only since the movie “Calendar Girls“. Now, numerous proettes from the ALPG Tour have posed for the womens golf calendar. Organised by former golf pro Jenny Sevil, the revenues of the calendar partly go to charity.

The calendar has caused quite some controversy. Initially, the fundings were to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) of Australia, but the charity has withdrawn her support for the calendar. Sue Murray, the general manager of the NBCF said she was concerned that the “perfect breasts” on (partial) display in the calendar photos would be “too confronting” for women who had lost their breasts to mastectomies.

Now, a third of the calendar proceeds will now go to the McGrath Foundation, another Australian breast cancer charity. The McGrath Foundation works to provide hospitals with the specialist services of breast care nurses, each estimated to cost AUD $90,000 a year to employ.
