An interview with Zach Johnson

What a surprise winner at The Masters yesterday, here is the interview with Zach Johnson:

CRAIG HEATLEY [MODERATOR]: Ladies and gentlemen, it’s my distinct pleasure to welcome the 2007 Masters champion, Zach Johnson. Congratulations, Zach. A brilliant effort today. Would you share some of your thoughts with us, please.

ZACH JOHNSON: Sure. You know, today was a day of perseverance and patience, I guess. You know, I felt like my game was good coming into today. I felt like I had a chance to really move up the board.

I don’t even know what I shot, but I know that I had a lot of people giving me some good words of wisdom over the last week. My coaches clearly, our Tour chaplain, and being Easter Sunday, I felt like there was certainly another power that was walking with me and guiding me.

So that’s where things stand. You know, I just feel very blessed and very honored.

Golfzentrum Rügen Schloss Karnitz

The Golfzentrum Rügen Schloss Karnitz is situated in the middle of the island, a few kilometers away from Bergen just off the B196. The club offers the 18 holes Challenge Course and the 9 hole Public Course.

The Public Course is a 1.827 meters par 30 course and can be played without players permit. The Challenge Course is a par 72 course with 5.727 meters from yellow, a handicap of 28 is recommended for the course.

The practice facilites feature a driving range and a putting green. One thing is for sure: they have the smallest ball buckets I have ever seen on a golf course. Twenty balls for 2,00 € and the bucket is full.

As the weather was about to turn bad and we didn’t have our raingear with us, we decided to play a quick nine holes. They still had winter greenfees and we paid € 15,00 for the round.

Golfclub Sassnitz

The hardest time you will have with the Golfclub Sassnitz is finding it. If it hadn’t been for Martins recommendation, I wouldn’t even have known about the existence of the course. Located between the ferry harbour Neu Mukran and the city of Sassnitz the course is directly adjacent to the famous cliffs of Rügen.

Golfclub Sassnitz: coastline

The nine hole course is the family business of Ulf Asmussen and is certainly not your ordinary golf club. It is an ordinary member of the DGV but with his own style. We met Ulf Asmussen as he was mowing one of the fairways, his wife was just cleaning out the clubhouse / pro shop (or the shed that served as both).

Be right back

pic sign borrowed from Kiki, I’ll give it back, promised!

I know it is Masters week but nevertheless I had to take some days off for a short easter vacation. We’ll enjoy the good weather at the baltic sea and yes, there are some golf courses around we’ll be taking on! And maybe they also have a TV in the clubhouse that we can follow all the action at Augusta.

Until next week!
