Regripping

I’ve been playing my Wilson Fat Shaft irons for the 4th year now and couldn’t be happier with them. But after all this time they are due for a regripping. As I haven’t regripped any clubs before, I am now wondering what grips I should put on my clubs. Lemkin, Golfpride, other brands?

I called a couple of golf shops in Berlin today, prices are between 12 and 16 € per club, depending on the type of grip used. At the one shop there is even a 10% discount if I bring a full set of clubs.

Do you have any experiences with different grip brands? Any recommendations?

Website Statistics

Usually, I am tracking my website traffic with etracker, and I am pretty satisfied with it.

Since Google Analytics came around I’ve thought about testing it for a couple of times. The problem I have with it is that Google stores your traffic data, so you pretty much open up your website traffic data to them.

But then curiosity overcame me and I implemented the google tracking code some five weeks ago. What I really like about Google Analytics is the visual appearance of graphs and maps. Take the map to the right for example, it shows the origin of the readers of this blog, you can have it by continent but also drill it down to every country and city.

As you can see, most of the visitors came from Hamburg, followed in a tight race by Frankfurt and Berlin. The funny thing is, if you put a map of Germanys golf clubs next to this map, it is almost the same pattern.

Sporting Club Berlin

After playing the 63-hole-tournament and visiting Bad Saarow for the very first time, it is certainly time to write a review about the resort. Problem is, that my little brain couldn’t store all the details of all courses in one day, so I stick to the more general impression I had from playing there.

Practicing facilities

Right besides the parking lot, you’ll find the practicing facilities, including driving range including pitching and putting green. The covered practice bays are neatly painted in white, it makes you feel like being on some course in South Carolina.

To get to the Nick Faldo and Arnold Palmer course you just cross the street at the crosslights adjacent to the driving range.

Baby Pics

I am surprised, that the birth of Tigers and Elins daughter causes such a stir, I had four times the amount of regular visitors here, most of them googleing for “Sam Alexis Woods”. The baby pics can be found over at golf.com, if you were looking for that.

Can we get back to golf now? Thanks!

The Jean van de Velde experiment

I forgot where I picked up the link, but have a look at this video of the so-called Jean van de Velde experiment. It has got to do something with Carnoustie, if that rings a bell!

Oldie but Goldie

Whatever pills Bernhard Langer is taking, I want some of them. After shooting a 76 on day one of the BMW International Open, he was 11 shots behind the leader. Then he puts down rounds of 66, 68, 67 and ends up in second place for the tournament, just two shots behind the leader.

Personally, I feel a little sad that he is moving over to the Champions Tour at the end of this season. He has been playing a helluva season so far and showed that he can still mingle with the young guns on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour.

There were 14 german players in the field, only two saw the weekend and the oldest one of them contends for the victory. It was good to see Sven Strüver in rising form again. And guys like Martin Kaymer or Marcel Siem will continue to make their way on the tour. But it will take them a long way until they achieve Langer-status.

I’m looking forward to following him around the course again at the Deutsche Bank Players Championship at Gut Kaden, just like last year. Even if that means to get up at 6:30 on a sunday morning.

Golf Nuts break world record

Ok, my 63 holes in 15 hours do not quite match what some of my fellow Golf Nuts just achieved:

At midnight on June 19, 2007, a foursome of certifiable members of the Golf Nut Society, broke the Guinness World Record for the Most Holes Played by a Four Ball in a 24-hour period.  The golf nuts played 195 holes in just under 21 hours.  The old Guinness record was 180 holes in 24 hours. The record will be made “official” within the next three weeks when the Guinness book completes the audit of the scorecards, witness statements and course yardage.

“It was grueling, and in the worst conditions you can imagine,” recounted Donovan of their round at Dragon Ridge Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada, USA.  “We played in 25-30 mph winds and a high temperature of 107 degrees, with a low of only 99 degrees.”

The foursome also broke two Golf Nut Society records:
1. Most Holes played at night: 53 (old record 18)
2. Fastest 18 Holes by a foursome in a cart: 1:25:06 (old record: 1 hour, 33 minutes by a twosome!)
