Die 2007er US Open blieben ohne deutsche Beteiligung, auch die Open de Saint-Omer sahen nur zwei Deutsche am Start, die es auch beide ins Wochenende schafften. Sven Strüver wurde 56er mit zehn Schlägen über par, Kariem Baraka benötigte 16 Schläge über par und kam auf den 79. Rang.

4:00 o’clock: the alarm clock goes off. I get up and kiss my wife on the cheek, she mumbles something like “You’ve got to be crazy”. I sneak out of the bedroom, get dressed, pack my stuff (set of spare clothes, three pairs of golf shoes, cool bag with plenty of water and Red Bull) and leave the apartment.

4:30 o’clock: It’s 10 minutes ’til sunrise but it is already bright as daylight out there. I hit the road for an hours drive out to Bad Saarow. The autobahn is empty except for some polish folks making their way home. Sun rises to my left, beautiful scenery, but no time to stop and make a picture.

5:30 o’clock: Arriving at the parking lot, there are already several other people there lifting their clubs and trolleys out of the car. We greet and everybody thinks: “God, there’s people out there as nuts as me!”. I walk over to the first tee box of the Nick Faldo course, the starter gives me the necessary instructions and I head back to the driving range to warm up. “Why am I bothering to warm up, I’ll hit a couple of hundred golf shots today, as if this would make a difference?”, I catch myself thinking.
