Golfclub Dresden Elbflorenz

Golfclub Dresden Elbflorenz is one of three golf courses around Dresden besides GC Schloss Rammenau and Golfanlage Ullersdorf.

Situated above the Elbe valley, the course is embedded in the hilly countryside and surrounded by the formerly royal Poisen forest.

The club features an 18 hole course (scorecard) that makes good use of the natural conditions (5.935 meters, Par 73, CR: 72,4, Slope 136 from yellow). There are only three holes that play flat out and two of them are doglegs. So you better are in shape to climb up and down the fairways of the club. It was good to have a local player in our flight, so he was able to explain the course layout a little bit, which helped a lot around and over the blind corners.

9. Arcor Golf Cup

Waking up with a stiff neck and back yesterday I knew I would be in some trouble for the golf tournament. A hot shower was helping a little, so I hoped I’d stay through the tournament and hit the road to Dresden together with Martin and Ingo.

Two hours later we were welcomed by the Arcor staff at the Golfclub Dresden Elbflorenz. The weather was supposed to hold up, clouds passed by but it stayed dry. Warming up on the range showed that I had a problem today. I only could execute a 2/3 swing without pain, resulting in much shorter shot lenghts. So I decided to go out there, have a look at the course and see what I could do with my limited abilites that day. We started on the third tee, a par 5 for the start already. The first holes didn’t work out at all. Two discards and two double bogeys, a bogey on the fifth hole sparked a little hope.

On the back nine I was getting into the groove a little better, five bogeys , some par chances, there wasn’t really much more I could do on that day on a quite challenging course.

I still could have saved my 36 points or at least saved me into the buffer with two holes to go. A short par 4 and a medium par 3 that would have given me fair par chances. Double bogey, bogey wasn’t what I wanted. But hey, that’s golf.

I still enjoyed the day with nice flight partners, an interesting course and a splendid dinner at night. Thanks to Arcor for the invitation. I hope I can come back in better shape next time to really pull something off.

Off to Dresden

Today I am on my way to Dresden to play my second tourney of the week (not by far as much as Tony). Together with Martin and Ingo we are tackling Golfclub Dresden Elbflorenz today to play an invitational tournament by Arcor. The course must be a beauty I’ve been told, so we’re excited. Report and course review will follow as usual.

Bettina Hauert

With joy we look upon the performance of the male german players, veteran Bernhard Langer showed us just last week that he still has a victory on the PGA tour in him at age 49. Martin Kaymer is about to make his mark on the European Tour after a blistering 2006 season. But forget about the men for a second and have a look at this:

With a victory at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open and a second place at the BMW Ladies Italian Open, Bettina Hauert propelled herself to the top of the Ladies Order of Merit. Her career earnings are 199.805,26 € in total, 133.000,00 of which she made this year, so she plays her best season by far since becoming professional in 2004.

Learn more about Bettina in her player profile and on her website. Unfortunately, she had to withdraw from this weeks Northern Ireland Ladies Open, but we’ll keep an eye on her in the upcoming tournaments.
