A couple was on their honeymoon, when the new bride says to the husband, “I have a confession to make, I’m not a virgin.”

“Tiger Woods, the golfer?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, he’s rich, famous and handsome. I can see why you went to bed with him.”
The husband and wife then make passionate love.
When they are done, the husband gets up and walks to the telephone.
“What are you doing?” asks the wife.
The husband says, “I’m hungry, I was going to call room service and get something to eat.”
“Tiger wouldn’t do that.”
“Oh yeah? What would Tiger do?”
“He’d come back to bed and do it a second time.”
The husband puts down the phone make love a second time.
When they finish, he gets up and goes over to the phone. “Now what are you doing?” she asks.
The husband says, “I’m still hungry so I was going to get room service to get something to eat.”
“Tiger wouldn’t do that.”
“Oh yeah? What would Tiger do?”
“He’d come back to bed and do it again.”
When they finish he’s tired and beat. He goes over to the phone
“Are you calling room service?”
“No! I’m calling Tiger Woods, to find out what the par is for this damn hole.”

Well, it was just a matter of time until the 2007 European Tour Rookie of the Year would claim his first title. Today, Martin Kaymer – in his first start of the 2008 season – won his first trophy. And did it in style, leading from start to finish through all four rounds. A big applause from our side and congratulations, Martin.

A fifth place in the Order of Merit, a two year tour exemption and the 35th spot in the World Golf rankings and, above all, he became the youngest german winner in European Tour history, beating Bernhard Langer by 14 days. If that isn’t a good sign…

Despite the rain and grey Hamburg weather we went out and played 18 holes in Gut Kaden today. Great fun with my Hamburg buddies and the first pars of the season have been accomplished. We missed Kiki, but next time we’ll sure manage to play together.

Anscheinen ist der Januar der “Moving Month” für die Berliner Golfläden. Zum einen zieht das Golfhouse vom Kurfürstendamm 63 vor die Tore Berlins in den Europarc Dreilinden (wahrscheinlich neben eBay).

Zum anderen zieht Jochen Kaynigs Golfshop aus der Habersaathstrasse in die Markgrafenstrasse in Mitte (zwischen Zimmerstrasse und Schützenstrasse).

Ich denke mal, daß bei beiden vor dem Umzug noch Räumungsverkäufe anstehen, das Golfhouse schickte mir auf jeden Fall einen Flyer, auf dem 50-70% Rabatte auf ausgewählte Artikel angekündigt werden. Wenn ihr also schon für die Saison 2008 am aufrüsten seid, schaut doch mal bei einem von beiden vorbei.

Und ich werde jetzt schnell mal Geld zurücklegen, weil Kaynigs Golfshop unmittelbar neben meinem Büro sein wird und ich da wahrscheinlich nur rumhängen und Zeug kaufen werde. Das wird wohl ins Geld gehen.

Man könnte noch einige dutzend Golfzitate mehr bemühen, die alle auf das gleiche aus sind. Der Weg zu richtig gutem Golf ist kein biomechanischer, sondern ein geistiger. Das ist natürlich leichter gesagt als getan, wenn einem mal wieder der 10cm-Putt auslippt oder man den dritten Pro V1 ins gleiche Wasserhindernis versenkt. Obwohl, nicht in solchen Situationen sondern schon weit davor sollte man sich Gedanken über seine Einstellung zum Spiel machen.

Oliver Heuler’s Buch “Jenseits der Scores” beginnt mit folgenden Worten:

Der Gebrauch dieses Buches gleicht dem einer Landkarte: Allein das Lesen wird Sie keinen Schritt voran bringen. Wenn Sie sich jedoch auf den Weg machen, können Ihnen Landkarte wie Buch dabei helfen, Umwege zu vermeiden. Für beide gilt außerdem: Zuerst muss der eigene Standort bestimmt werden.

Die Lektüre war für mich vor allem Selbsterkenntnis. Wie die meisten Golfer rotiere ich zwischen den Stadien Vergleich & Leugnung, Wut, Krankhafter Ehrgeiz und Depression, habe für mich aber bewusst noch keinen Ausweg daraus gefunden, weil ich mich gedanklich nicht ernsthaft damit auseinandergesetzt habe. Im Grunde ist es nicht schwer, sich auszumalen, daß man nicht sein bestes Golf spielen wird, wenn man in Gedanken noch im Büro hängt oder sich wie Rumpelstilzchen aufregt, weil man am letzten Loch einen Benzinger aus dem Fairway geschält hat. Wie soll aus dieser Gemütslage ein fokussiertes Golfspiel entstehen? Genau, eben garnicht.

Oliver Heuler tut das, was wir selber in den seltensten Fällen tun, schildert uns einleuchtend, wo unsere Defizite liegen in unserer Auseinandersetzung mit dem schönsten Sport der Welt. Und beginnt dies bei psychologischen Grundlagen und Verhaltensmustern, die jedem von uns innewohnen und uns generell in unserem Leben begleiten, nicht nur auf dem Golfplatz. Daraus abgeleitet zeigt das Buch, wie wir diesen Defiziten begegnen können und zeigt Methoden auf, wie man sich als Golfer trainieren kann, dann, wenn es darauf ankommt, komplett in der Situation auf dem Platz präsent zu sein und sich nur auf den nächsten Schlag und dessen bestmögliche Ausführung konzentrieren zu können. Eine Garantie, daß der Schlag dann gelingen wird, ist das natürlich nicht, die Ausgangssituation dafür ist aber eine weit bessere.

Diese Methoden zielen natürlich nicht nur auf das Golfspiel ab, sondern auf den Golfspieler: “Dieses Buch handelt deshalb nicht davon, wie wir unser Leben dem Training, sondern wie wir das Training unserem Leben widmen können.” schreibt Oliver treffend in seiner Einleitung.

Ich habe die Lektüre des Buches sehr genossen und werde die dort beschriebenen Routinen bestmöglich in mein Spiel und seine Vorbereitung integrieren. Einfach wird’s nicht, aber wenn ich etwas einfaches gewollt hätte, wäre ich beim Hallen-Jojo geblieben. In diesem Sinne sei Euch die Lektüre dieses Buches wärmstens ans Herz gelegt.
