What’s more to expect from Kaymer?

Martin Kaymer just sealed his second win on this years European Tour and he did this within one week. Last week the Open de France, this week the Scottish Open. Like his two wins last year, they came on important and well-staffed tournaments.

Personally, after he missed the cut at the BMW International Open in Munich, I thought he might need some time to recover from the frustration of missing the cut as defending champion. But he came back stronger and better. Although he looked shaky from time to time during his round today, he made the important putts and secured his victory by two strokes.

Just for the records: he now is second on the Race to Dubai ranking (Order of Merit sounded better) and 11th in the World Golf Rankings. I am very curious what happens next week when Kaymer continues to play like that. Turnberry, here he comes.

That is some form to take into the year’s third Major, isn’t it? I suspect there would be nothing that would thrill all of Germany more than a hat-trick of wins for Kaymer right now. I suspect there would be no one feeling better than Kaymer right now heading into the Open, and if the young lad can pull something out of the hat, it would be a huge boost.

Just when everyone expected him to be the main hope for the locals in a tournament he won last year, it turned out to be the man of all seasons- Bernhard Langer and worse still, Kaymer didn’t even make the cut. But the way he has bounced back after that is incredible and this jump of eight spots on the international rankings list is huge. He is just a fraction outside the top-ten and that augurs well for the young lad.

And if he does enough to jump into the top-ten, he would be the fourth European on the top-ten list which is getting younger by the week, except of course if you discount the resounding success of Kenny Perry. All the best to him for that and more importantly, all the best for next week.

Say something!
