The 4th Royal Benzinger was – like in the last years – blessed with sun, the nicest of crowds and an interesting golf course. I tried to cover it via Twitter, but I was too busy having fun on the course (and drinking beer).

Bernd, Lutz, Karsten and I played a foursome together and battled it out for the Golf Blogger Cup, Lutz played helluva back nine (26 stableford points in nine holes), but Karsten managed to play the best gross core to secure the trophy. Congratulations, Karsten!!!

This year, we had almost 130 people at the Royal Benzinger and received such tremendous positive feedback that makes us as hosts very proud. Despite the cancellation of the Popkomm (the RB was the official golf tournament of the Popkomm), we had even more people at the tournament than in the years before. This assures us in keeping up the spirit for next year.

All the revenues from this years tournament will benefit Gangway e.V. in Berlin, they do streetwork with young kids and adults.

In Eurer aktuellen Ausgabe schreibt Ihr einen Artikel über Golf in Berlin. Wolltet Ihr den vielleicht zuerst in der letztjährigen August-Ausgabe bringen? Dann wäre es noch korrekt, daß es am Gleisdreieck eine Driving Range namens Global Golf Berlin gibt. Der geneigte Golfer wird jedoch jetzt dort eine brachliegende Wiese vorfinden, da die Range Ende letzten Jahres Konkurs anmelden musste.

Auch haben die Bildunterschriften so fast nichts mit den Bildern zu tun. Entweder sind sie falsch zugeordnet oder haben mit Berliner Clubs gar nichts zu tun. Anthal-Waging liegt nicht in Berlin sondern ist lediglich der bayrische Partnerclub des GC Pankow.

Auch bei dem Bericht über Hamburg der online zu lesen ist, habt Ihr es nicht so genau. Das “Das klassische FinishingHole” ist zwar die B9, aber ihr zeigt ein Bild der C6.

Auch wenn ihr Euch Golfpunk nennt, bischen mehr journalistische Sorgfalt wäre schön!

Here’s the highlights from last weeks BMW Championship. Wait until you see #1 and go ask yourself: in how much more bad lies has Tiger to get to not be able to play Birdie?

Ian Poulter is probably one of the most colorful players on the circuit, and I mean that not only because of his clothing. Besides playing golf, he is a car enthusiast and a twitter junkie (I think only Stewart Cink has more followers than Poults), loves soccer (Arsenal in particular) and is a very likeable guy alltogether.

His new website reflects all these characteristics in a very state-of-the-art way. On fullscreen flash video Ian himself guides you through the content. I love the garage tour when he talks about the first junk cars he owned up to the newest toys in the garage.

The global tracker let’s you see his current and past locations, Stats and Schedule shows you the tournaments and results. Links to his Facebook-, Youtube- and Twitter-pages round up all the information on his site.

I love the site because it makes it easy for the IJP fan to know more about the man. Something Martin Kaymer and his management have failed to do the last years. I just hope they will wake up sometime soon and do something about is. IJP’s website may serve as a good blueprint in my opinion!

Die Mercedes-Benz Championship läuft und soeben sah das Leaderboard so aus:

6. STENSON

Die PGA steuert offenbar auf einen Einheitsnamen hin. Bedenklich.

Das Leben ist irgendwie schon voller komischer Zufälle. Letzten Freitag beispielsweise hatte ich vormittags ein Meeting, bei dem u.a. ein neuer Geschäftspartner mit am Tisch saß. Am selben Abend feierte ich meinen Geburtstag nach und bekam von einem Freund ein Buch geschenkt mit kleinen amüsanten Kurzgeschichten rund ums Golfen.

Auf dem Innenklappentext war die Autorenbeschreibung und auf dem Bild erkannte ich eben jenen Menschen wieder, mit dem ich am Vormittag noch über Digital Signage diskutiert hatte: Kurt W. Zimmermann, Schweizer, Medienmanager und passionierter Golfer mit HCP -14.

Überrascht und interessiert las ich die Geschichten und Erlebnisse seines Golferlebens, die er in dem Buch “Echte Golfer weinen nicht” zusammengefasst hat. Sehr kurzweilig und amüsant beschreibt er seine Erlebnisse und Gedanken auf und abseits des Platzes. Absolute Leseempfehlung. Und ich bin mal gespannt, ob wir bei nächster Gelegenheit mal eine Runde Golf zusammen spielen können. Genug Geschichten hätten wir uns zu erzählen.
