Hamburger Golfclub Falkenstein

As you can see, my posting frequency has a direct correlation to my golf playing frequency this year, so I haven’t been on the course to often.

The one round I will definitely remember a long time will be the round I played two weeks ago at the Hamburger Golfclub Falkenstein. Not only because of my very charming playing partner Kiki, but because of the sheer beauty of the course at one of oldest golf clubs in Germany (check out my fotoset on flickr!, and you’ll see what I mean).

The present course was inaugurated in 1930, with 5763 meters from yellow (Slope: 129 CR: 70.9), the par 71 course isn’t a monster in length, but tricky to play with lots of elevation changes and very interesting hole layouts.

A beautiful autumn sun lit the course in a warm light, long tree shadows accentuated the course layout. Falkenstein is probably the first course I played that has no water hazard. In its place you’ll find plenty of heather, the effects are almost the same. Once you play in the heather, you most certainly lose a stroke. Believe me, I’ve tried!

Greenfees are € 75,00 respectively € 40,00 when accompanied by a member, but it feels like a million. A definite “must-play” when you’re in Hamburg, an immaculate and interesting course awaits you. No wonder the course was awarded “Best Golf Course in Germany”.

Say something!
