The 14.000 € Golf Cart

Meet the Garia Golf Cart, the Aston Martin of golf carts, including a double-wishbone front suspension, a drivetrain built by the company that produces Ducati gearboxes, a built-in refrigerator to keep your beverages nice and chilled along with a couple of strategically-located cupholders.

It hasn’t been reported, whether the Garia Golf Cart improves your game or not. But you’ll sure look good in the parking lot of your golf club.

Oakley Armchair Sessions: Ian Poulter

Apparel- and equipmentwise, I have no particular preferences but two: Titleist golf balls an Oakley sunglasses. My wife and I had our share of A Wires, XX’s and Half Jackets, but I never could warm up to the M Frame design that David Duval wears. But hey, thats all about personal style and preferences.

An other golfer sporting Oakleys is Ian Poulter. He is just being featured in Oakleys Armchair Sessions, a series of interviews with sportsmen like Mark Cavendish or Kye Forte. He talks about his sport, his practice habits, fashion on the golf course and gives some advice about shotmaking. With sometimes not the results intended:

As in the “Outside the Ropes” interview, Ian is fun an entertaining, so enjoy the videos.

Martin Kaymers Driver fitting

“Martin came to Oceanside looking to get fit for a Titleist 909 driver. He likes to play a slight fade and he likes a fairly flat ball flight. We tested Martin’s old driver on the Trackman and found that it launched at 8.6° with 2758 rpm of backspin. When he hit a fade with this driver, we saw his backspin increase to over 3000 rpm. We knew we could get Martin more consistent backspin rates with a new 909.

The Titleistblog posted an interesting report on Martin Kaymers most recent driver fitting two weeks ago. Very detailed, but yet interesting, go check it out!

Decisions, decisions…

My trustworthy golf shop around the corner offers the 2008 Taylormade Burner Driver for 225,00 Euro and the new 2009 Taylormade Burner Driver for 449,00 Euro.

Is new technology really worth over 200 Euros more? Does it improve my game equivallently? Or is it better to save the 200 Euros on the driver and invest them in lessons with my pro?

What do you think?

PSP Golf training club

Ecki already mentioned it today on fooore.de: we had the chance to play a new training club yesterday, the PSP golf training club.

Regular steel shaft, it has the loft of a seven iron but the club face is just a fraction bigger than a golf ball:

Essentially, there is no sweet spot as the whole club face is the sweet spot. So, if you don’t make accurate contact with the ball, poor or no ball flight will be the result. This may sound like the hard way to learn or improve your game, but when you’re able to hit the ball straight with this club you might as well go ahead and buy yourself a nice set of blades.

We did hit a couple of shots during our tournament round with the PSP and the result was almost identical to shots with my regular seven iron, a little shorter in distance though. The ball flight was more nervous compared to my regular shots, the ball meanderd through the air a little bit.

I didn’t test the club thoroughly enough to get some deeper insights, but Ecki will do that next week, so make sure to visit www.fooore.de for an update on this club.

Need to have more bags

As I need a new laptop / messenger bag I was surfing around and bumped into this Titleist messenger bag. Quite nice but with one problem: I couldn’t find an online shop that ships to Germany with reasonable prices.

In all the shops I visited, the shipping costs exceeded the bag prize. Can anyone give me a hint where to order this one in Europe / Germany?

Mizuno MX-20

The practice session at the driving range convinced me, that the used set of Mizuno MX-20′s was the right one for me. Compared to my old set of Wilson Deep Red’s the Mizunos played more accurate, but you also had to be more precise as they are less forgiving than the Wilson clubs. I probably hit the best 10 consecutive 5iron shots of my life, really solid impact, beautiful trajectory and right on the line. I also like the classic look of the irons, small leading edge and compact club face, combined with the steel shafts, they make excellent weapons!

So, after borrowing the club from the golf shop I went back and bought the set. They are being regripped right now and I can pick them up monday. Guess where I’ll be heading after work. I’m looking forward to the 3 iron, my longest iron with the old set was a 4 iron. As I still don’t play any woods, the 3i might help with some extra length off the tee.
