After playing the 63-hole-tournament and visiting Bad Saarow for the very first time, it is certainly time to write a review about the resort. Problem is, that my little brain couldn’t store all the details of all courses in one day, so I stick to the more general impression I had from playing there.

Practicing facilities

Right besides the parking lot, you’ll find the practicing facilities, including driving range including pitching and putting green. The covered practice bays are neatly painted in white, it makes you feel like being on some course in South Carolina.

To get to the Nick Faldo and Arnold Palmer course you just cross the street at the crosslights adjacent to the driving range.

Der entspannteste Golfclub Deutschlands wird 1 Jahr alt. Herzlichen Glückwunsch, lieber GC St. Pauli. Auch wenn ich diese Woche nicht mitfeiern kann, ich trink aus der Ferne ein Astra auf euch.

Alle, die dieses Wochenende in Hamburg sind, hier ist das Feierprogramm. Schaut vorbei und habt Spaß mit den Jungs.

Furthermore, I discovered that almost every german island has its own golf course. Here’s the list from Baltic Sea to North Sea:

Heiligendamm has been Germany’s most elegant seaside resort since its foundation in 1793. European high nobility, including the Tsar-family, spend their summers here. Until the 1930s Heiligendamm remained an exclusive resort with a lot of prominent guests. In those days it was a must to have been there at least once in a lifetime. The G8 summit will be held there this year.

We’ve visited the place before, but only at our last visit did we stop over at this one cafe that turned out to be the former club house of the past Golf Club Heiligendamm. Only the tapestry above told us something about the course, aside the tapestry was a trophy of the club championships of 1923. The 10 holes added up to a 3.045m par 39 course. I couldn’t find any information about this course online, when it was built or destroyed. My best guess is that is was deconstructed after WWII, as golf may not have suited the socialistic ideals of the GDR.

Golfresort Wittenbeck is the closest golf course around, so we could call it the successor of the Golf Club Heiligendamm.

Als ehemaliger Hamburger gabs für mich kein Zögern. Als ich von der Gründung des Golfclub St. Pauli erfuhr, wurde ich umgehend Mitglied. Schliesslich hatte ich fast auf Pauli gewohnt, als ich damals nach Hamburg zog.

Der GC St. Pauli ist eigentlich momentan nur ein “Clubhaus” mit Golfsimulator, der Club residiert im East Hotel in der Simon-von-Utrecht-Strasse, aber das Clubhaus hat zumindest noch ein 9-Loch Putting-Grün.

In nicht einmal zwei Wochen wird die erste Clubmeisterschaft auf dem Platz von Red Golf in Moorfleet ausgespielt. Ein eher kurzer Platz, der sehr schmal sein soll. Genau das richtige für den “Iron Man“.

Das Format ist sehr spassig, Freitagabend vorglühen im Clubhaus mit Longest Drive Wettbewerb auf dem Simulator, Samstagmorgen um 08:00 Uhr 9-Loch Qualifikationsrunde. Dabei starten alle bis HCP 18 brutto, darüber spielen alle netto. Nach der Quali erfolgt der Cut, die besten spielen dann im Anschluss das 9-Loch-Finale. Ab 14:00 Uhr Abspannen und Chillen in der Golf Lounge mit anschliessender Siegerehrung. Klingt alles nicht nach eine verbissenen Turnier mit selbsternannten Regelpäpsten, daher sehe ich dem mit freudiger Erwartung entgegen.

Schliesslich spielt Golf-Bloggerin Kiki auch mit (freu mich), Anke ist leider noch etwas umzugsgeschwächt. Wir werden auf jeden Fall ausführlich berichten!

Germany’s Clubhaus AG sells their unfinished project in Berlin Seeburg, hotel and 18 hole golf course have been planned there as their fifth resort in Germany.

Seems that they reconsidered their plans. Their resort would have been the 20th in the Berlin-Brandenburg area, a pretty saturated market when you look at the numbers of active golfers in the area: 14.649 to be exact. Suppose they all would be members in clubs in the area, that’ll make 771 per club. Some clubs have to support 27 to 63 holes on these member figures, not the easiest task, if you’d ask me.
