My backyard is prepared for this years Open Championship!

Businesswise I have a lot of traveling to do these days. I don’t have to tell you that my golf game suffers tremendously due to this. But that’s not the point here.

Usually on a flight I reserve an aisle seat because I prefer to have at least one side where I am not crammed in between another person or the plane hull. This week, I chose different and had a window seat to my flight from Berlin to Stuttgart and back. And I left all the papers I took with me to read and review in my bag and just looked out the window during the whole flight. We had a perfectly sunny day, little clouds and it was a feast for the eyes to watch Germany from above.

The most fun was to spot golf courses from above. Or layouting a golf course in my mind once I saw a nice piece of land down there. Very entertaining and relaxing.

On the return flight I had a chance to take a picture of the Golf Resort Berlin Pankow as we approached Berlin Tegel airport from the east. This is where I usually go for practice, as the course is a mere 10 minutes from my house.

Ganz Hamburg ist derzeit hibbelig, ob oder ob nicht nach 13 Jahren wieder mal ein Alstereisvergnügen stattfinden kann. Golf spielen kann man dort aber schon jetzt, vorausgesetzt man ist morgen um 10 Uhr am Alster Cliff:

Am Dienstag, 26. Januar 2010 ist mit dem “Golfclub auf der Alster” der wohl exklusivste Hamburger Golfclub gegründet worden.

Abgeschlagen wird jeden morgen um 10:00 Uhr am Abschlag “Alster Cliff”. So lange das Eis trägt und nicht zu viele Menschen auf den eisigen Fairways sind.

Am Samstag ist das “Alster Ice Golf Masters” geplant. Gleiche Zeit, gleicher Ort.
Skikleidung und die (alten) Golfschuhe mit Eisenspikes sind empfehlenswert.

Wer hätte gedacht, daß zwei Wochen und eine unvergleichliche Medienhetzjagd reichen, um einen Titan zu stürzen? Tiger Woods nimmt eine unbestimmte Auszeit, mit Accenture zieht bereits der zweite große Sponsor sein Engagement zurück, diverse Kollegen auf der PGA Tour haben plötzlich was zu Tiger Woods Lebenswandel zu sagen, you name it.

Ich heisse TW’s Fremdgehen in keinster Weise gut. Aber einen Menschen, der seit frühester Kindheit unter dem Mikroskop öffentlicher Beobachtung aufwuchs und lebte und der seinen Sport in ungeahnte Höhen katapultierte, kann man vielleicht nicht mit denselben Mass bewerten wie “Joe Average”. Daß Tiger irgendwann in diesem von Kontrolle geprägten Leben ein Ventil benötigte, war meiner Ansicht nach nur eine Frage der Zeit.

Eugen Pletsch hat einen brillanten Artikel zum Thema geschrieben, “Das Imperium schlägt zurück”, den ich Euch wärmstens per Lesebefehl ans Herz legen möchte wie all denen, Tigers Verdienste um den Golfsport allzu schnell vergessen haben.

The press conference just ended and the result is surprising, as the RC Deutschland comittee chose a golf course that has yet to be built as designated venue of the german 2018 Ryder Cup application (press release – german only).

I had my fingers crossed for Bad Saarow and the Nick Faldo course, not only being a beautiful golf resort but also a tremendously challenging golf course (and just outside my hometown Berlin).

Ok, it’s on a hotel floor and not on a green, but he still finds the “cup”!

So you’re in Switzerland within a beautiful nature and there is no golf course around? Just call up some friends, take an old tractor and a jeep as golf carts and hit the Alm with some golf clubs. That’s what Pixelfreund did and it sure looks like a lot of fun:
