Joost Hage Golftrickshow

I met Joost Hage at last years Snow Golf World Championships and found his show very entertaining. He now has some videos up on youtube, so lean back and enjoy:

The Rise of Martin Kaymer as seen by Google

I was playing around with Googles new analysis tool Google Insights for Search. It displays the intensity people search on Google for a certain keyword over time. So I typed in “Martin Kaymer” as search term and this is the result:

I like the commented peaks in the graph that display the news for the individual date. Also interesting in my opinion is the allocation of the search volume by country. Not surprisingly Germany provides the biggest interest here.

Let’s compare this to other golfers:

Rocco Mediate

Greg Norman

Trevor Immelman

Find this interesting? Go play around for yourself.

“You putt first.” “No, go ahead, you putt first.”

How far is it?

Check out this really nice video about Fred Funks caddie Mark Long discussing the creation of his yardage books, which are used by many on the PGA TOUR. This guy gives accuracy a new meaning.

Golf-Nerdiness

After some hectic two weeks, we finally come to settle down in our new domicile. There are still some things to unpack and lamps to mount etc., but most things are done. I even managed to squeeze in some nine holes tuesday at Golf Club Pankow, which is now practically around the corner. My game is completely in pieces, but I’ll have it checked next week by my swing doctor.

One of the very positive things in our new home is the way bigger closet we have. I now even have the space to dedicate an extra section to all my golf apparel and accessories. Like my drawer for golf balls, gloves and other stuff, loving it:

Texas Scramble

Definition: Texas Scramble is a competition format that is a basic scramble with a slight twist.

Scrambles involve 4-person teams playing four balls, but with each shot coming from the same spot (the best of the four drives is chosen and all four team members then hit from that spot, and so on).

The variation in a Texas Scramble is that at least four drives of each member of the team must be used during the course of the round: At least four drives hit by Player A, four by Player B, and so on. In a regular scramble, a great driver might have his tee ball used on every hole. A Texas Scramble eliminates that possibility and allows even the weakest driver on the team to get into the action.

Well, the definition doesn’t say anything about having the same idea in what direction to play:

Wondering, how many people in all the years passed this sign not noticing the typo… should I have given a hint to the hotel?

Breaking News on Poults

I just found out, that Ian Poulter had to pick up spare-time work to make ends meet: he is serving as a flyer dispenser in the golf shop around the corner!

Out in the Wild

While playing our After-Work-Golf-Round yesterday at the GC Gross Kienietz, we had an interesting visitor on the 6th green. A young fox strolled by, sniffed at our bags, looked at us an walked over the green just two meters away from us.

He didn’t seem scared or anything, he was just checking who’s visiting. Really interesting experience.

Apart from that, we had entertainment from the Patrouille Suisse, which was circling overhead (Air Force Golf revisited). The ILA is in town at the nearby airport Schönefeld and the Patrouille was giving their daily show.  Quite entertaining round it was.
